A Kaypro 10 I'm (very) slowly refurbishing

Log (most recent first)

  • RIFA film capacitors in PSU replaced, they're notorious for failure after a long time. PSU still does not seem to provide rails. Fault in other components?
  • Floppy seems fine, fault is in PSU. While diagnosing, got single arc in some PSU component. Does not boot, does not provide rails.
  • Discover that disconnecting floppy allows boot to BIOS, suspect fault there causing overcurrent
  • Does not boot, squealing/chirping noise, manual indicates short in a component
  • Initial boot(s): HDD error of some sort
